Just SomePictures

It's the holidays and I just wanted to share a few of my recent pictures with my family. They're just a few I collected over the past few days; no real rhyme or reason. Enjoy!

First, a picture of the restaurant (well one of them) where I went on Christmas. It's called Sky Lounge and it is on the 22nd floor of the Russian Academy of the Sciences building. It was a really nice dinner. They had Christmas decorations up and were even showing Home Alone on the TV screens there.

Next is a picture taken from the outside of a Russian film studio. Somehow, I was selected to do an interview for a documentary film about "international love relations", so I visited a Russian TV and video studio to answer a couple of questions. Picture your stereotype of what you think the inside of a Russian film studio might look like and you'll probably be dead on.

Next a picture from the area near VDNX (as it was formerly known), a sort of Russian exhibition center that has devolved into an overgrown marketplace over the years (see previous post). Of all of the pictures I take, I think my favorites would have to be the ones that show the juxtaposition of Soviet culture with modern Russian culture. I should think this picture fits the bill. The statue in the background is done in a very Soviet style and it sits atop a building for which I couldn't even venture to guess its purpose. In the foreground is the sign for an underground car park.

Next a picture from Vorobyovy Gory. Just a view of Moscow, seen through the trees atop a hill near my university. It is quite a luxury to be within 10-minutes walking distance from one of the nicest views in the city. The fog in the lower right corner was completely intentional. Completely intentional!

A picture of Moscow State University in the evening, with Christmas lights in the foreground.

Now with no Christmas lights. (I tried to choose a picture, but they're essentially the same. So why not use both? Right?)

And last a picture of Moscow State University in the fog. It is a rather ominous looking building, especially at night. I always worry that the statues atop the roof are going to come alive, much like the gargoyles towards the end of Ghostbusters.
